Wait? There’s a sequel to Cannon Fodder?

CannonFodder

If you played games in the 90’s, you’ll undoubtedly remember Cannon Fodder, the satirical, darkly humourous squad-based war game from the guys who made Sensible Soccer. It was way, way too much fun – hell, its tag-line was even ""War has never been so much fun." It was originally released in 1993 for just about every system available then, with a sequel released in 1994. And that was it. The series has been dead since.

Good news is there’s a a sequel. Bad news is you can’t play it…in English anyway.

Internet sleuths Superannuation found out that Russian developer GFI picked up the licence with current publisher Codemasters’ blessing (back in the 90’s the game was published by Virgin interactive…remember this logo?) – and has made Cannon Fodder 3. Problem is, it’ll only be available in Russia – for PC and Xbox 360. This is what it looks like.

I could do without the lame-o generic hard-rocky power-chords in the trailer  – but this has, like the discussion about arcades – filled me with that warm, fuzzy nostalgic feeling. Any other long-dead franchises you wish people would resurrect -  or at least look to for more inspiration than is provided by Generic First Person Shooter X?
