Warframe

Warframe, the frighteningly popular free-to-play cooperative third-person shooter is a very different beast now to the game it was when it launched in 2013. Independent developer Digital Extremes has keto the game perpetually updated to keep it feeling fresh. It’s next update promises to be its biggest yet.

Plains Of Eidolon will drop players in to larger more open worlds that the developer is calling Landscapes. Players will be able to interact with up to 49 other players and head off to tackle missions, look for loot and even more quests. This makes the game a little more like a hybrid MMO, akin to Destiny – which in truth took a lot of its cues from Warframe. The circle is complete, I guess.

“We have announced big things for Warframe at TennoCon before but nothing like this. Adding Landscapes is a huge leap that we’ve been working on for some time,” said Steve Sinclair, creative director of Warframe. “Plains of Eidolon is our first step in adding a new kind of player freedom to the game. We wanted to give our players something new, something dramatic, and that meant taking risks and evolving the game in a fresh, new direction. For veteran players, we’re always trying to give them a living, evolving game. Landscapes is a great example of how we do that. If you bounced off Warframe a while ago, this is a very different feel for the game that warrants a second look. We can’t wait to see how people react to this!”

Key features in Plains of Eidolon include:

  • Landscapes (Open Zones)
    • Until now, Warframe missions have taken place in relatively closed environments. With the Plains of the Eidolon expansion, players will set foot in a vast natural landscape free to explore on their own terms.
  • Meet the Inhabitants of Cetus
    • Never before have Tenno encountered the faceless people whose lives they have saved, until now. Meet the Ostrons, a makeshift group of scavengers whose culture revolves around the grotesque harvesting of biomechanical tissue from long dormant Orokin Towers.
  • Different Kind of Mission
    • In addition to discovering and exploring, players will engage in an assortment of missions to find and assemble new Warframes and weapons, items and more. Expect to strap on Archwing for air travel and battle, and experiment with customizing and modding a Warframe like never before.
  • Discover and Explore
    • Plains of the Eidolon offers a sense of discovery, variety, and mystery that mixes several different environments and tones to create a deep sense of place. Experience a bristling new world in where the wind rustles across your Syandana and the age and size of giant Orokin structures ominously looms in the background. Earth will be more alive than ever before.

It’s coming this year. Here’s a 17-minite long gameplay demo of the new content.

“For the first time in Warframe history, Tenno will have the freedom to explore, fight, journey and fly through the open Landscapes – Warframe‘s first Open Zone – of Planet Earth in their own time, in their own way. Stepping into the rolling Plains of Eidolon, players will experience a rich landscape populated with both familiar and never-before seen creatures, enemies, a new Warframe, stunning vistas lit with a day/night cycle, and a gripping story told through interactive NPC characters who inhabit the bustling scavenger city of Cetus. In Plains of the Eidolon, players will set foot in a natural landscape with the freedom to explore it on their own terms.”

I literally stopped playing after that update. Also I could not get into the new UI. Everything became a nightmare to manage at m12.

Specter of the Rails update… killed it for me as well.

And when I finally came back, they had nerfed the crap out of my main, Saryn. x.x

Saryn did not get the nerf stick, she got the nerf bat while Ash was laughing in the background. Push 4 to win.

Ash was always interesting, don’t think she needed a bump.

I heard there’s a bunch of new exploits that make big times in sur/def. Back in my day we fought hard and smart for those times!

It was difficult to find a good Trinity in pubs though. I preferred to have a Rhino and Saryn to Banshee and Trinity.

I almost only run support frames.

Saryn still does good damage, just requires a few more button pushes. Ash got nerf batted so hard I barely see him in pub matches anymore.

Do you have about 400 hours to do the basic tutorial?

Oh yeah, that’s no problem for me.
The problem I generally have it getting rid of information. Too much useless shit floating around in my head.
