Warning! Mortal Kombat Arcade Kollection unplayable online

Yesterday, Midway’s nostalgic trip down a bloody, motion-capped memory lane, the Mortal Kombat Arkade Kollection was released on PSN, giving fighting game fans a chance to replay the first three games in the series. It goes up on Xbox Live Arcade today. If you were planning to get it for its new online features, you may wish to reconsider.

According to reports, the game has some of the worst online netcode ever seen in a fighting game. Those of you who do play fighting games online would know that decent netcode is cardinal to online enjoyment. It seems that, regardless of internet connection, the game seems to run at half the speed it should, and has some game-breaking input lag to boot. Beyond that, it seems to be a pretty piss poor port; You can only host 1-on-1 lobbies, without any support for spectators or replays – with complaints of sound issues abounding as well.

It’s entirely possible the 360 version that releases today runs better, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Sorry Mortal Kombat fans, but it might be best to avoid this one.

Also, this header image was so fantastic I had to use it again.
