What is happening with RockBand?

Rockband coming or not? Things are getting very strange around this title with misinformation and rumours being the order of the day.

Earlier today quite a number of sites released the PS3, PS2 and Wii PAL release dates. According to an official EA Games circular these versions were going to be released on the 29th of August.

Groans rang out through the Internet corridors and the fanboys started up again. However it wasn’t long before EA stepped in and denied this date, stating (the date)

isn’t confirmed, and is on the fact sheet in error

So what is the big secret? How can a game that is already created be taking so long to move over to other platforms. I think it is a unanimous belief now Microsoft has paid for an exclusive period, possibly to scuttle the GTA IV launch?

What is even more worrying for us and our fellow Southern Hemisphere dwellers is the lack of 360 release news. Apparently the May 23rd date is for Europe only and we don’t have a date yet.

The last time I checked the official response was that we don’t have a solid release date or price yet for any of the platforms and that I will be told when this changes.

Releases: European Rock Band Wii, PS3, PS2…Not Until August 29th [Update]

Why does it seem South Africa is not going to get a chance to rock on? This is really getting a little silly now. It’s been out for ages in America – are these guys singing from the same hymn sheet as Nintendo?

Ok, so there’s a couple of issues here. (sorry for repeating everything above).

    1) EU PAL release was delayed to add extra Eurocentric content (nothing wonderful, Oasis, Blur, Muse and some french and german stuff) These are originals so i think they do get the actual bands involved in some cases.

    2) EU release also delayed because they can’t make the instruments fast enough.

    3) Delay reason #3, looks like MS struck some kind of deal to get it 360 exclusive for a bit.

    4) Now for SA, they’re faced with the problem that they must ship the game down instead of using air cargo like they usually do. (GH3 came out in November, but we only got the bundles in March for the same reason). Or it’ll be too expensive if you add in transport costs. The Box is HUGE!

So… add that all together. For the 360, my guess is
early June for software only, August/September for the full version.

Other platforms (23 Aug release), late Aug software, (hopefully) before xmas for the full version.

Sucks to be so d@mn far from the rest of the civilised world isn’t it. But EA are screweing the pooch here because only problem no 4 is something that was out of their hands.
