Xbox Live Arcade title Wreckateer, the Kinect-powered, boulder-chucking Angry Birds clone is coming to the digital download service next week as part of the Summer of Arcade. It’s the first title to use Microsoft’s new Avatar Famestar – something the company trademarked back in February. but has divulged little information since. So what in the name of jelly and custard is Avatar Famestar?
If you guessed that it would add new social integration, then it’s time to pat yourself on the back, but it actually sounds like it could be fun – especially for those of you who’re mental about collecting achievements.
"Avatar Famestars is a new program from Microsoft Studios and is part of a select group of games that delivers new and exciting ways to play online with your friends and compete for social recognition," says Microsoft in indecipherable marketing speak.
What that means is that supported games will have in-game challenges that, when completed, will reward your avatar with the sort of stuff Microsoft usually makes you pay for. You also earn Famestar points – which you’ll compete with your friends for – giving you a second, more casual-focused digital penis to swing around.
Avatar Famestar will be retroactively added to Full House Poker and A World of Keflings. Support will also be added to new, upcoming games Fire Pro Wrestling,Homerun Stars, and Avatar Motocross Madness.
