What was Assassin’s Creed Unity delayed for?

ACU 12

Assassin’s Creed Unity was delayed by two weeks. After originally announced a launch date of 31 October, the game is now coming 14 November. I know that I can only get so much done in two weeks, so what will the crew at Ubisoft be busy with in that time period? Mostly bug fixing and balancing.

Speaking to Video Gamer, senior producer Vincent Pontbriand explained that they were ironing out the game, focusing on internal play tests with dozens of people:

Well, one concrete example is the economy system where we could say, ‘Okay, this piece of gear is too expensive, no-one’s ever buying it, so let’s lower the price,’ and adjust the rewards of missions. Stuff like that.

Also, difficulty plateaus. We want [Assassin’s Creed] to remain mainstream and accessible, so we want to feel the difficulty plateaus, but we need to make sure the player’s always a notch better than the average difficulty of each mission, if that makes sense, so the player always feels empowered and strong.

We want them to hit a wall if the player is at one star. So, level one, if they try to go on a three-star mission we want them to feel that wall. But the minute they are at three stars we want them to feel like they are ready to do that.

Okay, so they want players to feel strong, but not too strong, and they want the economy to make sense, too. That’s definitely something that has been broken in plenty Assassin’s Creed games of the past – at first I couldn’t afford anything, and later on I was practically swimming in extra cash.

Of course, the fix people are really looking for is a bump up in resolution. Ubisoft is claiming that the final specs for Assassin’s Creed Unity aren’t cemented yet, but the game has consistently been shown in 900p to crowds’ amazement. Still, everyone is all about the console war and they don’t want to see their PS4 versions of a game dialed back because of another platform’s possible graphical issues. Gamers want to feel vindicated in their choice of console, even if it makes absolutely no different in the experience.

It’s funny how the last one was about pirates. Glorifying old-school rapscallions while the modern day pirates “repack” their ‘flagship’ game to oblivion.

      Some well-deserved irony right there.

The same as Watchdogs. They need extra time to down sample the graphics.

900p with AA is far better than a 1080p Jagfest but this is the internet and fanpeople have keyboards dammit!

People who love traversing landscapes and back stab assassinations are all busy playing Shadow of Mordor right now.

When these Assassins fans get the new old gen tech Assassins game I bet you a MUFFIN that after countless hours in 1080p 60fps Mordor that they will notice a HUGE difference.
