Whatever happened to 2 Days to Vegas?

I’m not exactly sure what happened this morning but somehow I stumbled upon an article I wrote back in June 2005. And holy crap I sucked at writing back in those days, why anyone was reading is still a mystery to me but I’m really glad they did.

But what also caught my eye was the game I was talking about called 2 Days to Vegas which was meant to be a GTA killer and yet it seems to have disappeared entirely.

The official website describes the game as such:

“2 Days To Vegas” is a story driven 3rd person action-adventure game. The thrill-a-minute story is crammed full of car chases, shootouts and unexpected twists, to keep you on the edge of your seat throughout the game. The action is set in several major cities across the USA and takes place during an intense 48 hour period. This game has it all, a gripping story of contemporary gangster life combined with thrilling car chase action and an intense race against the clock.

So that actually sounds pretty cool and there are some graphics on the page as well

Not bad for a game that was supposedly going to release in 2008. I initially believed the game had just died off and that the company, Steel Monkeys, had moved onto bigger and better things. However if you can read Russian you can see that they were actively looking for beta testers for this title in July last year.

Apparently the game is coming to PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 but I honestly believe this small studio has bitten off way more than it can chew and the game that has been in development limbo for 9 years is never going to see the light of day.

Which is a pity as it actually sounds like it could have been a lot of fun.

9 years is a really long time. When I hear that I think of the likes of DNF and such

Yeah, by now the graphics are really outdated and there are so many other options available!

Some companies should really just cut the losses and move on.

If we keep saying that graphics are not all important then perhaps if the game gets finished it will still be awesome even though graphics are dated?

Although 9 years is a long time and a lot of money loss

I ask the CEO of Steel Monkey and he says that it is not really canceled, the investors thinks that it is too risky. BUT he says that they try to find a way to release it.

Strange that you comment now on an article that is 10 months old?
