Fallout 3 BANNED

So the big noise in Oz at the moment is all about why Fallout 3 was refused classification or in other words, BANNED…

The official reason is this

Corresponding with the list of various "chems" are small visual representation of the drugs, these include syringes, tablets, pill bottles, a crack-type pipe and blister packs. In the Board’s view these realistic visual representations of drugs and their delivery method bring the "science-fiction" drugs in line with "real-world" drugs.

So do they honestly think that 18 year olds don’t know about real-world drugs?

Well you see the problem is that the most severe game rating in Oz is Mature that allows anyone over 15 to buy it… So anything that is a little to risque for 15 year olds is banned across the country.

Now any normal person would just suggest they add a 18+ rating to the system and all the problems would be solved, however logic is something that just doesn’t exist in any government department in the world.

But there is good news, all Bethesda need to do is make the drug paraphernalia look a little less real-world and then it should be passed… because 15 year olds have no idea what an altered syringe would look like…

I think that the Oz age restriction is 16 and above. They don’t have the 18 cut-off age and thus their classification is much stricter. I maybe wrong but I think I read something like this.

Some people really have nothing better to do with their lives than to make others miserable.

The maximum age rating allowed in Aus is 15, so their tolerance levels are much lower. But let’s face it, they can still just import the damn thing.

Depends on the law, I know for some banned goods it is illegal to bring them in as well.

It’s really ridiculous, the same body that restricts Games does movies and they have 2 higher ratings for 18 and AO. They know they’re out of date, they want to change, but because of the way the law is structured, 1 single guy (Some backwater District attorney or something) is currently blocking the whole process because they have to have 100% consensus.

They better sort this mess out before I get there darnit! 😉

    Dark Sector?

But there wasn’t anything remotely bad in that.

It was banned for ” high-impact violence, particularly the finishing moves the game’s main character can perform on various enemies ” So they didn’t like body parts coming off

True as Bob, their society is going to end up like that portrayed in the movie ” Demolition Man ”

Pax brothers pax.. SCREW YOU DUDE !! Let people make up their own minds.

Come to think of it, why didn’t they ban Haze. Surely Nectar is a drug 😉

There’s an article up on gameplayer showing up the hiporcrisy – Haze was one, Max Payne and the mother of all “Drugs and child abuse are good” games – BioShock.

GTA4 was censored a little to make the cut of the 15 rating, but Austrailia has a big enough population to demand it and Rock Star obliged.

I actually agree with a 16 max age restriction on a game. THink about when you were 16. Now think about any “M” rated game. You’d have been playing it anyway. I’ve noticed that parents these days are aware of age restrictions, but i’m sure that most parents would allow a 16 year old to play something like Gears of War. The age restrictions seem to matter less at that age.

Unless there’s gratuitous sex, of course. (don’t agree with that, but that is how the world works…)

No most people just import banned games from Play-Asia and that’s legal…

You can’t sell unclassified games in Oz but that doesn’t mean you can’t play them 😉
