Wii Generation vs PS2 Generation

Console Wars Ignite

As much as many of the hardcore gamers don’t want to admit it, the Wii has pretty much won this generation before the generation has even started.

No one expected the phenomenal explosion of the Wii and now everyone has started grappling to understand, and capitalise on it.

Jacob Mazel over at vgchartz.com has put together a fantastic factual article detailing the sales rates and his own perception on why this is happening.

It’s a long but interesting read and the one thing I did find interesting is that even though we have had many of the previous generations blockbusters already the bigger looking titles are actually new IP’s which is very nice to see.

I am looking at the Gears of War, Assassin’s Creed, Motorstorm, Resistance and Wii Sports/Play/Fit here…

It’s well worth a read so click through after you have gotten your coffee…

I think many non-gamers by the Wii because of the novelty factor, but generally don’t play the games after a few weeks of owning the system. The question to me is, how will Nintendo do in the next generation of consoles when the novelty factor is no longer there? Should be interesting to say the least…

Imagine the number of peripherals you will for the Wii in the next 4 years ❗ And if rumors are true then soon the MS will have a similar thing available for the 360.

Already Sony has Real Play for the PS2 which does the same thing has Wii Sports 😛

yeah well there are plenty of other mp3 players on the market, but the novelty/cool factor of the iPod hasn’t worn off. Anyways I think you are over generalizing. As nintendo’s next generation who knows.

Don’t you all think it’s a bit early to state that the wii already won this generation? Where is the PS2 numbers now? Over 100 million? We don’t know what will happen when the 360 and PS3 hits the sub $200 level.

Anyway, nintendo can have their winnings. I still like my supposed “hardcore gaming”

I still say the Wii is nothing more than the Hoola Hoop of this generation. I know so many people who own a wii which just sits gathering dust!

Honestly I cannot see either the PS3 or 360 ever catching up, by the time they can sell for under $200 the Wii could be sold for under $50…

It is rumoured that it only costs them $75 to make now…
They have hit an untapped market and haven’t even scratched the surface yet.. Hell my mom wants one and she has never played a game in her life besides Tetris

I’m with you there abe. I completely fail to see the apeal of wiggling stick around infront of my tv.

Besides, at the price point in South Africa, I cannot see how anybody calls it ‘casual’.

I noticed that the Wii appeals to females and the older generation alot more than the other consoles do 😎

Seems the PS3 and 360 fanboys are a bit sore there “power house” consoles got the beat down by the Nintendo Wii. The PS3 fanboys seems the worst affected by this denial. Cell processor ?! whut lolz. But don’t worry the PS3 is catching up in the gimmick department.

And the people who think its more than a fad or a gimmick should get there heads examined. The people at Nintendo made a brilliant move by targeting the casual game instead of trying to go head to head with with Sony and MS. And it paid off big time.

While MS and Sony where laughing at the concept of the Wii, Nintendo ran off into the distance laughing.Leaving MS and Sony with there pants down comparing tools.

In the 7 months I have had my Wii console I have bought around 14 titles and enjoyed everyone of them:

    The Legend Of Zelda
    Super Paper Mario
    Resident Evil 4 (Wii Edition)
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Metroid Prime 3
    Nights
    Zack & Wiki
    No More Heroes
    Resident Evil: UC
    House Of the Dead 2&3
    Bloom Blox
    Mario Kart
    Super Smash Brothers
    Okami

Not to mention all the VC titles available for download and excellent Wii Ware titles like Lost Winds.

The there are upcoming games like:

Not to mention I can still play ALL my old gamecube titles and every other game that was ever released on a Nintendo system.

So while you boys are trying to compare console I will be in my corner waving my wiimote, and enjoying my games.
