Brace yourselves ladies and gentlemen. In fact, I want to make sure that you are sitting down.

This just in: WiiSports activites burn less calories than their real life counterparts. I know, it came as a shock to me as well. The truth is, that instead of having a six year old figure it out, we can thank the American Council on Exercise for releasing this horrific information to the world.

Destructoid reports that the meat of the findings are here in this passage:

“Compared to golfing at a driving range (3.9 calories per minute), playing Wii Golf burned 0.8 calories less per minute. Actual bowling burns nearly twice as much (7.2 calories per minute) as Wii Bowling, while baseball burns 7.3 calories per minute and Wii Baseball burns 2.8 calories per minute less. Similarly, Wii Tennis burns 2.8 calories per minute less than the actual game (8.1 calories per minute). Finally, Wii Boxing burns about 3.0 calories per minute less than conventional sparring at 10.2 calories per minute.”

These findings were hunted down by MTVMultiplayer and found in this PDF. I don’t think that there is much more to say. Oh wait, I know!

Duh!

Wii-Sports, Wii-Fit… whatever. I still thing that the best calorie burner in gaming is still goes to Dance Dance Revolution (or Dancing Stage Universe).

3 songs and you feel like you’ve run a marathon (ok, i’m a smoker so it feels that way for me)
