The annual Esports Industry Awards came to a close last night in an evening which celebrated one of the most successful years in the industry. It’s easy to say that about every year, I know, because esports is growing at such a rapid pace. Last night’s awards had all the familiar faces, including the Doc (Dr DisRespect) as well. It was a formal event, like the Academy Awards of Esports, fit with good looking hosts and guests dressed to the nine.

Guy ‘Dr DisRespect’ Beahm, winner of Streamer of the Year

The entire show was broadcast on Twitch, and all throughout this morning winners have been thanking their followers for the votes after a long nomination process. Below is a list of the winners in each category:

  • Personality of the Year –  Eefje ‘Sjokz’ Depoortere
  • PC Player of the Year – Amer ‘Miracle-‘ Barqawi (Dota 2)
  • Console Player of the Year –  Matthew ‘FormaL’ Piper
  • Team of the Year – OpTic Gaming Call of Duty
  • Game of the Year – Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
  • Play of the Year – OpTic Formal in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Breakthrough Game of the Year – PLAYERUNKNOW’S BATTLEGROUNDS
  • Streamer of the Year – Dr DisRespect
  • Commercial Partner of the Year – G Fuel
  • Unsung Hero of the Year – Megan Cutrofello
  • Publisher of the Year – Electronic Arts Riot Games
  • Streaming Platform of the Year – Twitch TV
  • Live Event of the Year – League of Legends World Championships
  • Broadcaster of the Year – Alex ‘Machine’ Richardson
  • Hardware Provider of the Year – Intel
  • Coverage Website of the Year – ESPN Esports
  • Journalist of the Year – Duncan ‘Thorin’ Shields
  • UK Player of the Year – Spencer ‘Gorilla’ Ealing (FIFA)
  • PC Rookie of the Year – Abay ‘Hobbit’ Khassenov (CS:GO)
  • Videographer of the Year – Davis ‘OpTic Hitch’ Edwards
  • Photographer of the Year – Joe Brady
  • Console Rookie of the Year – Victor ‘Punk’ Woodley (Street Fighter V)

That’s it for this year’s Esports Industry Awards. In my opinion, the Dota 2 International was by far the best live event of the year, but other than that the winners in each and every other category deserve their accolades. I’m especially pleased with Dr DisRespect.
