The battle we didn’t know was happening is finally over, that’s right the Xbox 360 has finally beaten the PS2.
What didn’t you know we were comparing the two? Well neither did I.
Apparently Nielsen in the States have been comparing the amount of time people play consoles since April 2007 and since that time the PS2 has always been the top console… up until May 2009 that is when the Xbox 360 overtook it by a whole minute.
If you were wondering where the rest of them stood then this is the place to be.
Over the past 6 months the standings have been as follows
- PS2 – 22 Minutes %
- Xbox 360 – 22 Minutes %
- Wii – 18 M%
- PS3 – 10 M%
- Xbox – 6 M%
- GameCube – 3 M%
Now the only thing I still don’t understand is what exactly the minute percentage is?

its interesting to note both the 360 and ps3 have dropped steadily since may ’09. just shows the lack of big titles has an effect on how much time people play on the current gen and revert to their less powerful consoles.

To be fair you can’t say “Dropped Steadily” for a drop in a single reading… If July is down at the same rate then it can be dropping steadily.
But your point is valid, it’s feeling really dry at the moment

I think they mean the percentage of each minute it was used.

Although on cumulative hours the PS2 is still king… sigh what a lame analysis though.

Basically it’s market research over a broad segment of the market. You would never be asked because you live in SA again 😛
