Xbox 360 TV

So we reported last week about the new rumour that Microsoft may licence the 360 hardware to third party manufacturers, so that we may get Samsung Blu-ray players with Xbox 360 abilities.

Well while I think that idea is a possibility the latest rumour seems like a bit of a stretch to me.

According to an anonymous source on Maxconsole.net Samsung are developing a Xbox 360 integrated flat screen TV with a whopping 512mb integrated HDD.

Everyone is calling BS on this one but it does get you thinking about the possibilities of letting other companies use the 360 architecture.

And naturally they would all come with a ‘standard’ 3 year warranty. 😉

Since you already get blu-ray drives for pcs. Why would you build a console into a player ratch than just putting ‘n difrent drive in a xbox. This makes no sence. And the blu-ray player with xbox componets will = one million dollars!

Ah, elementary dear Watson, who said anything about BD on the TV? What if there’s no drive at all?

What if the 360 engine is just used for say IPTV and downloading arcade games, community games and Xbox originals, presumably they could make the 360 games downloadable as well. Just a thought.

On the expense, not so I say 😉 The heart of the 360 is simple silicon that costs less than $200 (with the DVD drive etc etc) That’s silicon the BD player manufacturers have to buy anyway. The PS3 on the other hand has to carry the additional cost of the HDD, wireless, Bluetooth and the over head of the ‘unique’ cell.

A 360 BD player would be cheaper than a PS3.

Ok. I see what you are saying. But..

There would have to be a hard drive or are you going to download a game everytime you play it? (In SA that would make your adsl bill the same as the price of the tv. Plus where would you save.

The tv would have to have either wifi or eithernet connections to download with

There will have to usb ports to connect the controllers.

Plus there wil be extra heatsinks of fans to cool the whole thing.

I just don’t think it would as easy or as cheap as that.

But if I am wrong I wouldn’t mind having one. Let just hope the 360 BD would be quieter than the current 360.
