Xbox Live is down! Don’t panic – yet. Microsoft is aware of the problem and is getting it fixed as we speak.
The big question though, is WHY is it down? Could it be nefarious hackers, responsible for PSN’s fall, back at work?
Here’s what the Xbox.com support page has to say :
Users may experience difficulties with the following services:
- Signing into Xbox LIVE from an Xbox console
We are aware of the problem and are working to resolve the issue. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience
It’s curious. Xbox Live doesn’t go down too often, and when it does it’s generally for scheduled maintenance. Its service was interrupted for two weeks over the 2007 Christmas period, leaving many unable to log in to or use the paid service. The company cited an unprecedented number of new users as the reason then. Hopefully it won’t be affected for nearly as long this time around – and it’s down for some innocuous reason, and isn’t the work of jerk hackers.
[Update] The UK and ZA Xbox support pages say everything is gravy – so it looks like this is primarily affecting US gamers at the moment.Source : Xbox.com
