Xbox Live Arcade limit upped

In a move that most of the world wouldn’t care less about and us poor gamers in SA will suffer because of, Microsoft has decided to up the size limit of Xbox Live Arcade games to 350Mb…

Apparently they have listened to the community and developers and have done this to help everyone.

My personal opinion is that it is a bad idea and all we are going to see now is worse games which have bad graphics to try and compensate..

I liked the old limit of 64Mb… that made developers think and scrap the graphics from the beginning….

I have to agree, I love the fact that I can browse through the arcade section and grab a game that I want to play in and in 15min it’s ready to play! and it didn’t hurt… I hope only a few XBLA titles take this option up. as convenience rules!

Yes and no. I think that games evolve, and competition evolves. With PSN not having hard limits per se, MS need to keep up as well. It’s also just us 😉 The average dl speed for the rest of the xbox world is about 4Mbps, so it’s not that much of an issue. There are still quite a few games that are under 50Mb, so those games will come out.

The other side of it is that Community Arcade will fill that gap as well.

Hopefully this will make it possible to port better games to XBLA. There are some great PC classics I would like to play on Xbox like the X-Com series, duke nukem 3d and maybe the original Diablo.

Those would have fitted under the 150Mb rule. For Diablo, Too human looks pretty good.

What I’m hoping (as has been alluded to by the port of Soul Calibre 1 & Ikaruga) is that this will allow the porting of More Dreamcast games to the 360.

It’s a little known fact that the Dreamcast is related to the 360 quite intimately – they run derivatives of the same OS: Windows CE, so it’s a good fit.
