Xbox Live in India – South Africa coming soon?

So it has come out that India will be receiving Xbox Live on the 23rd of September this year. Exactly 1 year after the 360 was launched over there.

Now this has caused a little stink over at the Xbox 360 forums where some feel that we should be getting Live before them since we seem to have a greater installation base and a more active community.

According to GameGuru.in there are less than 1000 Xbox 360’s in India and according to MyGamerTag.com there are only 367 people connected to Live through India.

While some estimates have put South African sales at over 30 000 and we have over 1000 people connected to Live at this time. Since Microsoft refuses to release region specific sales figures all we can do is guess and thumbsuck numbers anyway.

However it is good to see that the Xbox Live footprint is expanding and hopefully in the very near future we will also be included legally…

Our current petition has 1098 signatures…. Come on Microsoft please give us some dates….

[Update] well I got a quick message from Microsoft saying we should be getting Live by the end of this year. That is by far the most promising answer I have received to my numerous requests.. I am following up with another person at the moment so hold on for more information..

I for one welcome our future robotic overlords

  • I’ve also spoken to MS, due to our site basically surround XBOX Live gaming, and it’s apparantly not up to Microsoft South Africa, but MS internationally, after speaking with them they’re just as enthusiastic to bring Live to SA as we want to see it here.

so don’t give them too hard a time since they’re alreay hounding the internationals to get their A into G.

Yeah I realise that but Microsoft SA can use the constant requests from all parts of the community to back up their requests to Microsoft head office….

Just making sure they don’t forget we want Live….

  • Microsoft South Africa is very aware of the demand for Xbox LIVE in South Africa. Unfortunately the roll-out is dictated by Microsoft in the US or EMEA and not Microsoft South Africa.

  • YES..I HOPE SO… That would also make more ppl aware..spoke to a oak today who has a 360 and has a load of games but didnt know how to connect to live .. he didnt even know about marketplace or that u can play xbox games on the 360
