Hey there girls and kittens. It’s that time again. The time for free games. And really, I see no downside with getting a little skip row row with my Xbox Live subscription. The last few offerings from the house over on Microsoft hill have been rather solid. Here’s what’s arriving in September.
Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine , September 1-15, Xbox 360
This had to be one of the bigger surprise hits of the year when it was launched. Monaco: What’s Yours Is Mine is all about stealth, puzzles and teamwork. Grab a few friends, get in, pull the perfect heist and get away from the scene of the crime while using the skills and talents of your crew to avoid being caught. Everyone has a role to play in that game, and a score to take part in.
Halo: Reach – September 16-30, Xbox 360
Halo: Reach is my favourite game on this list. It’s the final Bungie-developed Halo, which shifts the action away from the massive Spartan boots of Master Chief, and throws players into the thick of battle with an all new squad of Spartans. It’s the prequel to the entire Halo saga, as the game details the fall of Reach, one of the great cities of humanity.
It’s tried and tested Halo action, but what makes this particular franchise game stick out for me, is that magnificent Forge. It’s a pretty awesome map editor, that has all the tools necessary to create some new modes and levels. And using it is easier than stealing candy from a baby. Provided that baby is fast asleep, has exceptionally weak wrists, poor grip strength and tiny hands.
Super Time Force – September 1-30, Xbox One
We don’t really have enough 2D action games these days, or even a lot of time to get the hang of navigating certain death and a screen filled with more bullets than a mob corpse. Super Time Force pretty much scratches that itch. It’s all that lovely Contra action, mixed with a time-reversal hook that allows you to rewind the hell out of any impending death. There’s even a game mechanic where you can fight alongside a ghost of your previous attempt.
It’s rather addictive actually.

I am a sourpuss today, so please do not take what I say personally: But why would you have a console worth R3000.00 +-, capable of playing something as gorgeous as say Mass Effect 3, to play games you can easily play on a Mame emulator and a R400.00 reject PC?

And you know what is the so-sad-it-is-really-funny thing? People that LOVE these types of games are 8/10, the people that will look down upon you like you are the turd of the universe when you say you play games on a mobile device and like it. Again, I am in a foul mood. Not attacking people personally. MErely my observation of this lovely little universe of ours…

Well another example I like to use is Contra. They upped the graphics on every release but they still can’t give me the same gameplay Contra had on the 8 and 16 bit machines. I think it may be because they are trying to hard to modernize a franchise that doesn’t need to have shiny graphics. Same with Castlevania.

Why not have both? Everything doesn’t have to be AAA.Case in point Thomas was Alone. These games are cheap to buy and simple to play. Super Time Force here is free for XBOX subscribers.

They do the same with Playsation 4. or Ponystation or Indiestation. Depending on @pieterkruger:disqus mood. The only free subscription games we have had so far are indies.

I loved Trine 2 and would happily have paid for it, but had I not got it for “free” I don’t think I would have tried it… Now after that I am looking through all the indies on my PS4 and think I might buy Child of Light…. So I was also not that into it but Trine 2 has changed my mind, actually broaden my mind and the games that I play!!

Ah, ok, I haven’t bought Gold yet, and it doesn’t seem like I need to with that line up of games… but I’d still want to play GTA Online though… conundrums!

Monaco is sadly not for our region. We got Orcs Must Die. I already have it but still damn fun to play.
