PS3 delays Grand Theft Auto IV

This news is breaking around the Internet this morning and is obviously perfect for flamebait Friday… Which has been AWOL recently.

According to PS3Fanboy.com, Rockstar has come out and admitted that the PS3 was a contributing factor in the huge delay that has plagued Grand Theft Auto IV.

Previously they have refused point blank to say is the PS3 was hurting the game but now that they have the game looking identical on both platforms they are happier to chat about it.

So is it fair that the Xbox 360 fans had to suffer due to this or is it better that we all waited and the PS3 fans didn’t get stuck with another terrible port (Orange Box, Assassin’s Creed) or get cancelled completely like Frontline?

    Flame bait friday indeed.
Does it really matter which console gave the delays?
Does anyones life really stop cos they have to wait an extra few months?
This is with out a doubt the game that I got a next gen console for and although the delay was disapointing, I was too busy playing other great games to sit and dwell over a delay. Oh and since when is Assasins Creed a terrible port?
I know many a dual console owner that will say the PS3 version is better!

They said it was ‘partly’ to blame, which to my mind, sounds like the 360 was also partly to blame. 🙂

Nothing coming out of any of the previews round about the time the game was postponed made it sound like it was anywhere near ready – running on an Xbox 360 dev kit, it was still producing terrible framerates and pop-in.

And yes, Assassins Creed on the PS3 is by no means a ‘terrible port.’

Yeah but they didn’t specify that the 360 was partly to blame either….

Also Assassin’s Creed on the PS3 had serious framerate issues which were acknowledged by Ubisoft.

I also saw the PS3 vs Xbox360 assasins creed comparison and the Xbox came out on top. But who cares anyway, the differences are so small that only us mega fanboys can notice the difference, lesser fanboys won’t even know. 😉

To answer: no it is not fair.
Regardless of the game/console they shoulf release the product on the hardware that it works on first, with the rest then following.
Keeping up with that they can then release patches for the 1st released copy, to match improvements tricks they have learned while working on the next release. (think Oblivion).
No one system should hold up other system owners from enjoying a game when it is good and done for.

My opinion is assassin creed is crap boring… well that is MY PERSONAL OPINION ( so dont slam me ) and I played the 360 and PS3 versions… and I think another factor was the lack of HDD on all 360 machines …? could that be ?

Partially to blame – I say the bigger factor was the other games coming out at the same time. If GTA wasn’t rock solid it would have been tossed aside. Rather take the time and get it right.

The real question should be more in the line of “Who cares?”.

The only GTA that was worth playing was the 1st one… everyone after (and yeah, that includes the 1st 3D one) was just a rehash of the game, with each iterative having a crappier story

Fair? What’s fair got to do with anything?

Is it fair that a once PS exclusive title is now on XBoX?
Is it fair that MS releases a console with a 30% failure rate?
Is it fair that Sony release a R6500 console a year late?

If you don’t like it boycot their product.

Delaying the XboX version is the right business tactic, because you don’t want to piss off your Sony fanbase, while the XboX fans will buy the product anyway because they are happy to be getting the franchise for the 1st time.

And releasing patch after patch is not good as it’s an admission of mistakes not corrected before shipping a finished product. Let them take their time, you can wait and you’ll end up with a better game.

You should be thanking the PS3 🙂

“I also saw the PS3 vs Xbox360 assasins creed comparison and the Xbox came out on top.”

You saw the comparison, but did you see the games running for yourself? I have, and any differences are really splitting hairs.

I did, for the record, buy the 360 version, but they are both very similar when you view them on the same TV. I encountered framerate drops, crashes and numerous glitches on the Xbox 360, so I don’t know who is fooling who when they pretend it is a flawless piece of work.

“No one system should hold up other system owners from enjoying a game when it is good and done for.”

I’m sceptical that it was polished and optimised for the 360 by October last year- everything I read in previews at the time indicated otherwise. I think the delay means everyone gets a much better game.

Regardless of the fact that the ps3 version was partly to blame,at the end of the day xbox owners have still benefited from the delay (i.e more time to polish the game, and make it truly a great game)…….

This sucks. They should flippin well release it for the hardware that it works on. It is rediculous that gamers are made to wait for developers to bring other hardware up to scratch first before releasing it. Bad Bad Bad.

****lol at Abe. Ubisoft released a patch for Assassins Creed PS3 edition and admitted at the same time they are not sure what the problem is or whether the patch will indeed sort out the mystery problem. It’s a well know fact that PS3 version of AC was a piece of stinky dog poo, the 360 was near flawless when compared.*****

Jimbob, yes I have played both versions. I played the whole of the xbox 360 edition and enough on the PS3 version to see there was a difference.

The PS3 version had a problem after a firmware update, before that it was near spotless. The firmware problem didnt effect all consoles for some reason and a subsequent update fixed the problem 😉

Maybe they should release the xbox version early, afterall they only have so long before the console is dead!

Even if GTAIV has 100% ready and perfect on all platforms, I’d put money on it that Rockstar would have delayed release anyway. It’s not a kiddies Xmas present game and this way it has the 2nd Quarter to itself instead of going up against last years biggies.

    lol

There are how many million sellers on the PS3? And CoD4 is the only PS3 title to break 2 million units without having to be bundled.

Have you seen the 360 stats? Enough said. The 360 makes money, the PS3 makes silly promises.

    Or PS2 – 360…? It will be cheaper…

My gaming evolution was such: sega megadrive – PC – PS2 – Xbox – Xbox 360… I’m open to more gaming growth, if the platform(s) I move to warrant it.

One needs to move with the times, and adjust to what you as a gamer want from a device.

I would like my next move to be to a ‘Matrix-like’ head jack… but then again I also want a flying car and a small cabbage farm on Mars…
