PESXbox

Konami’s Pro Evolution Soccer 14 was released over a month ago – and unfortunately for Xbox 360 gamers, the online multiplayer has been broken. While PS3 and PC gamers have been able to take on their friends in the beautiful game, Xbox 360 gamers have had to contend with playing all by themselves. That is no longer the case.

Konami has sent out a press release confirming that they finally fixed online multiplayer in PES 2014 for Xbox 360 players. A simple title update should now be available to download on the Xbox 360, that should enable online play.

The update not only adds online functionality, but also delivers the Master League Online service, and fixes whatever troubles you’ve had getting Konami data-packs working.

In the press release, Konami has also said that the full 11v11online mode is in beta, and would become available “within the coming weeks.” They also detail  another pack, coming in November,  that promises over 800 player face updates, updated rosters and gameplay improvements.

Konami is “extremely grateful for the patience and understanding shown by PES 2014 users affected by the issues”.

Tell you what though. If I were a sports fan, and I picked up PES 14 on the Xbox, I’d be pissed. No online for a month? I think it would have taken no time at all before I flogged the game and got FIFA instead. Honestly… a patch a month after release is too little too late – and I think whatever goodwill Konami picked up with this new PES has been thoroughly pissed away.

We’ve discussed it before – but Konami just no longer has the resources to compete with the likes of EA and its FIFA property. Without the money, technology, huge development teams and those very important licences, I can’t help but feel that PES will keep paling in comparison to FIFA every year.

The crowed go bonkers for that little bit of excitement during the otherwise dull 90 minutes of poor acting skills. Especially the dude that wiggles like a fish every time he gets tapped.

As did I. Until I played a bit of actual soccer in high school. Not so easy as it looks.
Besides… I was kind of sad our school did not have a soccer team, seeing as soccer was seen as a sport for “Souties” back in the day.
At least in soccer I never had to smell some dudes unwashed testicles every 5 minutes we had to scrum. The joys of playing lock, I tell you…

Yes, yes you shall. We’re doing it in reverse order of seniority; one a week. So next week, you get to see Zoe’s, Darryn’s the week after et cetera.

I’ve been playing games since the early 80’s though – so compiling a list of just ten is proving to be quite a tricky proposition

This raises a question for me. Aren’t we as game consumers just always in a rush to consume everything a game has to offer as fast as possible? I mean, it was only a month. The game has always been single player. It’s not like this is a new MMO here. Sure, it’s not great to have part of your game not work, but why the big fuss? Why not practise in the mean time, and when you do get online take your friends out with end-level boss type skills.

Really, I don’t see why we as consumers are always in such a rush to do everything in one night. Maybe that’s why we get so bored so fast.

This would have been okay if the same issue plagued the PC and PS3 versions. But shipping broken software on only one platform reeks of poor testing and bad development.

Actually, if it was broken on all 3 I’d say that was poor testing and bad development. Remember, each platform is actually very different in terms of architecture in this current gen, multiplayer included. The fact that it took them a month to fix, was also indicative of a small underlying problem hard to test for.

Eh… no. That would indicate that they knew the game was broken when it went out their gates. And that would make it even worse…

Um, no? Where do you get this stuff from? haha.

No, testing on PS3 and PC would not have shown any problems. And how do you test something across a live platform, without actually being live? They had to test in controlled environments, and if this problem only cropped up on the live version (ie: Xbox Live) then there’s very little testing they could’ve done before-hand.

Fair enough point…only , you paid a lot of money for the game and you expect it to be in working condition. Whether or not MP is an integral part of the experience it besides the point. You pay for a product, and the product should be in a fully working condition. You wouldn’t want to buy a a stove but the oven will only be working in a month and only two plates work.

Yeah sure, as I said, something that isn’t working in your product sucks balls. But, unlike a stove, the makers actually spent time and money to fix the problem. They didn’t blame gamers, they took responsibility & fixed it, no matter how long it took.

A stove company would first try see if it was the buyer’s fault, then take a quick look, and if it wasn’t apparent on how to fix it, just replace it. Imagine if Konami did that?

“Sorry your PES is broken, here, have a different game from us. We can’t fix it because we’re too busy rolling in all the money you gave us.”

Well that is true, they did fix it…You’re very kind and patient. But it still kinda sucks to send out broken games. It gives your company a bad name and you do lose customers. What about the people that bought it solely for MP? And there is a hell of a lot of gamers out there that want to play it online. I find it unreasonable to ask them wait a month so that they can play online after they have already paid for the product.

Again, a fair point from your side. And I do understand people wanted to play online – and certainly watching their PC and PS3 brothers doing so would’ve hurt.

I just don’t see why people can’t have a bit more patience. As I said to mr Saint below, the fact that it’s only on 1 platform, and took an entire month to fix, says to me that it was a small, hard to find underlying problem. One that would be very difficult to test for. Remember, the PC and PS3 version worked 100% – so they would not have picked it up on those systems during testing.

Idk, your point is valid, and I can’t stop anyone from getting angry. I’d just let it slide, and be happy that I get to play online now anyway.

Dude, I have seen the dark side of software releases, having been part of it a good few years ago. Just remember, one platform is the only platform a lot of gamers have. All excuses of testing in live environments (or lack thereof) is still no excuse for shipping fundamentally flawed software.
Yes, a small bug here and there I can understand. Life is a bitch and such stuff does happen. But a game breaking bug?
If I just handed over R600.00-R700.00 for a game for the sole purpose of MP and it was broken, I would be pissed no end.

When Fifa 14 came out for some or other reason your defence just couldn’t see the ball over the top, so every idiot just chipped it over your defence and no one could catch the striker… It was the most flawed I have ever seen Fifa, I very nearly took it back until I heard they will change it!!
