So, Diablo 3 is coming out (hopefully) this year, and of course, everyone is hyper-defcon level 6 excited for it. And while the excitement meter may be turned up to eleven on this one, there’s always a chance that the next title in the Diablo universe doesn’t quite live up to expectations.

It’s something that developer Blizzard is well aware of, and while they’ll only release a game when they’re fully satisfied of its quality, they also realize that eager fans  may be a little too excited for the final product.

“I too worry that we won’t be able to meet the expectations people have built up for themselves,” community manager Bashiok said on the Battle.net forums. “Part of my job is managing people’s expectations, so, eh, stop it. Stop thinking about how awesome this game could be.”

Bashiok then compared the game to a few of director M. Night Shyamalan’s less well-received movies such as “the sequel to The Village or The Happening”, calli Diablo 3 a sequel version of those films.

Just imagine it’s a new M. Night Shyamalan movie. Sure Sixth Sense was amazing and Unbreakable had it’s moments, but this right here is the sequel to The Village … or The Happening … or Signs … or any of the movies besides the two I first mentioned. So just like, lower those expectations, but still definitely buy the game please, and everything will be just fine. K?

Before you make a stop at the pitchforks and torches shop over those comparisons, calm down, as Bashiok was just joking with the community. Still, from the results and experiences coming in from the betas so far, Diablo 3 is exactly what players are expecting and want.

A well balanced clickathon of epic battles and events. And you too can take part in the beta, thanks to that contest we’ve currently set up.
