Controversial developer Brendan McNamara may not be working on a sequel to the hit LA Noire any time soon, due to his studio, Team Bondi, having filed for bankruptcy earlier this year, but that doesn’t mean that he is out of the game-making business completely.

At the Bradford Animation Festival 2011 this week, McNamara spoke about his next big project, and what he learnt about game-making after his experiences with LA Noire.

“It’s pretty interesting,” McNamara told Eurogamer. “It’s one of the great untold stories of the twentieth century. So I think it’ll be good. I learnt a tonne of things from doing L.A. Noire which will hopefully play into what we do next”.

“There are a few people interested, yeah,” he said. “I’ve still got to do the paperwork.”

With Team Bondi officially dead, and its remnant staff and technology absorbed into Mad Max and Happy Feet director George Miller’s KMM Studios and Rockstar Studios, McNamara has gone straight back to video game writing, attracting quite a few interested people in his work.

“A lot of people who were working on L.A. Noire have gone across to KMM, some of them to be working on some of the film projects. A lot of the art and animation guys went across. Some of the people have gone to work in different Rockstar studios”.

“I’m personally just writing some new stuff now, which I’ve been pitching around for the last couple of weeks. Hopefully I’ll have something to announce on that pretty soon”. As for the details on his next game, McNamara was predictably secretive about them, but he did confirm that it would be a big budget console title with a scope similar to LA Noire, and might even include some of the revolutionary MotionScan technology from that game.

“We think the evolution from The Getaway to L.A. Noire and learning the lessons we did on the way, and some of the stuff about emerging storytelling, is definitely an avenue to pursue”, McNamara said. “I own some of the shares, and some other people own some of the shares. It’s a limited company, and there are some other investors in that, too”.

“Hopefully towards the end of that we’ll have the full body stuff up and running. That could be pretty interesting, too.”

Provided that McNamara has learnt his lessons about treating his staff and colleagues better, it looks like we could be in for another fantastic title. Lets just hope that this title doesn’t court as much controversy post-release as LA Noire did.
