Gamescom 2014 – FIFA is all about authenticity

FIFA-15

As expected, EA Sports is taking up a big portion of EA’s Gamescom conference this morning. When you think of EA Sports though, FIFA is usually top of the list. This year, the world’s biggest football title is all about authenticity.

Seriously, I can’t count how many times I heard that word during the brief FIFA 15 showing at Gamescom. FIFA 15 is refining a formula that has almost been perfected by EA, adding another layer of realism to make the beautiful game come alive. There’s updates to player statistics, more animations to players and another level of realism to gameplay. It’s all fluffy talk for features that have been tweaked and refined over last year’s version, all to make the game feel more like the real thing.

One thing that is exciting though is the changes to goalkeepers. EA have reworked their AI and animations, including more types of saves into the game. They worked closely with goalkeeper Tim Howard to improve on their goalkeeper technology, so expect an Everton level of AI in FIFA 15 this year.

These authenticity buffs have also made their way into PC’s free-to-play FIFA title. FIFA World is still in beta, with EA adding more features to the title every day. Gameplay changes are on their way now, allowing the game to adapt to your play style and improve teammate AI on the fly. You can download and play the beta now, with a full release coming sometime in the near future.
