Indie zoe zombies

It’s almost the end of the week! Can you believe it? Thursday at last, and I’m ready for a weekend. I think I’ve earned it. Even if I haven’t, I get one anyway. So, let’s check out the indie news you may have missed this week.

First up, we have some awesome news in local indie development. Stasis reached target on Kickstarter earlier this week, and now it has also been Greenlit on Steam. Well done to Chris Bischoff, a Joburg guy who now has $100k to make his game! RuneStorm’s Rook’s Keep has also been Greenlit this week. Wow, so many South African developers getting the Greenlight – Broforce and Pixel Boy certainly got some excellent momentum going for the local scene.

Speaking of Kickstarter projects, Starbound has officially gone into Beta now. Billed as Terraria in space, Starbound raised over $1 million using Tiyurl crowd funding. Reports are already pouring in about problems with loading the game and activating codes, although I’m sure that’s what people expected when signing up for a Beta, right? Check out the beta trailer here:

The guys of the Yogscast have raised a ridiculous amount of money, too. However, they’re doing it for charity. Surpassing their original goal of £200000 is quite a feat. You can watch the live stream over on twitch to help them raise money for Oxfam. These guys and gals are really entertaining to watch. Well done on the massive charity success!

Finally, Gavin has told you about Xbox supporting the indies with their poorly named ID@Xbox program. I’m glad to see that they’ve dropped some of the restrictions on this. However, I thought the point was to help up and coming developers – I’m not sure the likes of Double Fine need much support from Microsoft as gamers have already thrown tons of money at them to make the games that they want

On the bundle front, there are some cool bundles out at the moment. Bundle Stars is offering a ton of simulators (Agricultural Simulator 2013, Trainz, etc) for only R42. Or you could pick up the Humble Bundle as Darryn told you about – Sanctum 2, Magicka and Orcs Must Die! 2 make for an awesome bundle. The Humble Weekly Sale is also looking good, with games like Jamestown, Closure and Dungeon Defenders going for those who pay $6 or more. All that said, let’s be honest – you already bought all the indies you wanted during the Steam sale, didn’t you?

And Serious Sam 3 in the Humble Bundle – which is great fun.

If only I didn’t already have almost all the Humble games already. Bah humbug.
