It’s clearly an age of remaster. The original Resident Evil blew people away back in 1996, establishing what would go on to be one of the biggest zombie franchises ever. It was a game fans really loved, so much so that it warranted a complete REmake in 2002 for the Gamecube, which was then RE-released on the Wii. It looks like that REmake is now due for some REmastered treatment.
The original game took place in a mansion just on the outskirts of Racoon City. It was an incredibly memorable place filled with all sorts of tension and atmosphere, not to mention dozens of zombies and other horrors. Age restriction? I played the game as a 10-11 year old kid, with many regrets and nightmares following.
I have no regrets, it was still one of the best games I played at the time, and I still strongly love it to this day. I played the remake on the Wii too, and it really did the game justice. It looked amazing, keeping the game much how it was in the 90’s, but with some new gameplay mechanics and visuals.
This remastered version really looks amazing so far. It will be heading towards just about every platform (except handhelds) in 2015. Check out the feature list and screenshots (via All Games Beta):
- Remastered highly requested fan favorite horror title – return to the Mansion to experience the beginning of the Resident Evil saga
- Upgraded visuals – using the latest resolution enhancement and 3D model technology, game resolutions and textures have been significantly upgraded, including 1080p support on next-gen consoles
- Fully remastered sound effects – 5.1 surround support provides a greater gaming atmosphere
- Experience the terror at the classic 4:3 ratio or a stunning 16:9 widescreen mode
- Purists can choose to play with the classic control scheme or enjoy a new alternative scheme in line with current standards where the character moves in the direction of the analogue stick
This announcement makes me happy. Everybody should experience Resident Evil in it’s original, non Michael Bay PEWPEWPEW form. If they could also just REmake Resident Evil 2 and 3 too, I would be the happiest person ever! What do you think? Another cash-in, or something you are excited for?

I have never played RE1…. RE2 is my most loved game of all time!! I have played it over and over again!! RE2 was the first game I owned on CD, my very first game on a PS1… I bought the console and the game and didn’t have money left for a memory card so I played the first hour to hour and a half for a month over and over again because I couldn’t save my game!! Had to wait for my allowance at the end of the month for the memory card…
I will buy this and hope that they remake RE2 as well!!

I would buy all three of them for full retail price, and it would still be better than most new games of today!! Running around with limited bullets and ribbons for saves was hectic!! And then the best part, when you get in the sewers for the first time and you hear tiny footsteps…. You go the the T junction of the pipe and out of nowhere jumps a dog and bites you in the face!!! That part is still haunting me to this day!!

I wish they could create these games from the ground up instead of a remaster, but keeping as close to the originals as possible. The updated graphics looks ok. I expected it to be better.
