Midweek Mouth-off: Keeping count

Today it’s a simple question: We want to know how often you go to the movies? At least once a week? A couple of times a month, or is it only a handful of visits a year?

Alternatively, are you someone who does most of their viewing at home on a snazzy home theatre set-up? How often do typically watch movies from the comfort of your couch?

Home viewer, for the most part. I would go more but I prefer watching films non-3D any my local cinema never has a non-3D option for the big releases, so even if I get 50% off my ticket its still a good R100 extra to get to a decent cinema.

    3D ruins everything.

I would say about once a week when there are movies that warrant it. And sometimes more. Often though, if I see a movie, and thoroughly enjoy it, I might end up watching it a few more times in the next week. Saw 300 5 times in 2 weeks. Watchmen 3 times. Taken twice. Avengers 3 times. Thor twice. Toy Story 3 twice. So in those months, I went many times 😛

Hardly ever, I seem to Box Office everything on my PVR simpler and cheaper. 3 tickets for the family to See Madagasdcar 3 cost me over R250 bucks.

I only go to the cinema if I cannot wait to see the film. Films like Avengers (watched twice), The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man (yes there’s a trend… haha, just happens to be the films I cannot wait for) etc I just couldn’t wait for dvd and make a day/evening of it. Example, for TDKR we went for breakfast and then watched the 12 o clock prescreening show. Sadly, I’m not going to spend cash weekly or monthly at the cinema unless its something I cannot wait for, as the quality of service, cost of ticket (and snacks), and the quality of the actual film is times shocking at the best of times. There’s always a problem, whether the sound skips during a tense moment of the film, or it’s just not in focus, or the staff being rude, etc… The only reason I’ve gone to watch a film in 3D is so that I know the quality of it will be good (had no problems in quality when watching 3D). Films like Avatar did make good use of the 3D though, but beyond that I can’t remember a film that aced 3D…

that was the long answer (sorry about that…) the short answer is perhaps just more than a handful of times a year (depending on the releases of that year) at the cinema

I enjoy watching films on dvd at home, perhaps a few times a month.

Never. I used to go at least once a week, but it’s too expensive. These days I stay at home and watch on weekends. There it varies from two or more – this past weekend it was six.
