Empire Reviews Central – Review of Assassins Creed

Empire online has had a chance to play Assassins Creed and has published their review of the game on there website. The review is nice and detailed and you can hear that they truly enjoyed the game but what got me was the following.

Ironically, though, the game?s friendly controls are also its biggest shortcoming; killing your target normally instigates a chase sequence where you freerun across the rooftops and make fearsome leaps of faith to dodge your pursuers. But as there?s no jump button and your hero will perform most acrobatic moves automatically

What do you mean no jump button? Doesn’t that defeat a large part of this game? If I know I am not going to fall is it really going to be as entertaining as expected?

I still have full intentions of getting this game but this is the first disturbing news about the game play that I have come across and I doubt they are going to be adding a jump button in anytime soon…

This is even more reason to enter the Assassin’s Creed competition instead of paying for a copy… For competition details click the image above.

Oh and make sure you check back this evening for a first time ever in South Africa competition coming your way.

After playing Assassin’s I can tell you that a jump button certainly does not stray the gameplay at all, infact it ad’s to the game. and doesn’t leave you frustrated for not pushing jump at the exact moment so that you fall to your death!

PoP was a perfect example of this, where as Assassin’s has a very Cinematic flow to it giving you a sense that you really are capable of such things and that you are “highly trained” and not tripping over stones or houses 😛

all your actions are contained in one button and the action varies on the enviroment around you.

I think it’s also that ever lasting quest for realism… remember sitting playing a game and not quite getting something right and then saying: “If I was that character I’d get it right!” I think this is one of the better ways to get that feeling

Just different way of controlling characters.
I mean this is a next gen title so we have to move away from the boring old methods an search for better use of controllers an enjoying the game better 😉

? Not sure what you mean Zeek? I realise this is a new way of controlling characters but I have a sense of unease about it. What facts did I miss?

Kold how did you get that right? Cause when I asked to have a go they said no, only Megarom staff are allowed on the game.

I think I need my own blog, so that I can also score free stuff, although I think I might do mine on speed boats or something.

lol I hate to break it to you abev but I get a seriously limited amount of free stuff…

My grand total is sitting at 1 flashlight (which I am giving away to the first person to send me my ad in UGS), 2 magnetic buttons and a Halo 3 poster 😉

I am hoping one day that someone will decide to send me a 50″ HDTV, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 Elite with all the games to ‘review’ for them… not holding my breath though 😀
