IGN Adores Metal Gear Solid 4

So last week a storm in a teacup erupted over the fact that IGN hadn’t reviewed MGS4 yet, people were quite happy to insinuate this was because they didn’t like the game and had been forced to not release their review.

IGN themselves stated that it was because they wanted to try the online portion first before releasing the review.

So the game was released, they tried the online portion and published the review… and what a review it is. All through the 5 pages of review I couldn’t help but feel like there was a big BUT coming any minute now, every section of the game is spoken about in amazement and the very very few problems that are mentioned are incredibly minor.

Very little was mentioned about MGO though which I found suprising since they waited for that, but again it’s not a negative as they still did like it and just mentioned that it isn’t much different from the Beta.

I think the entire review gets summed up nicely in the closing comments.

Is it possible to give a game an 11? If so, this would be the game that would merit that score. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is a title that exceeds all of the hype that was attached to the title.

The game sounds as fantastic as certain people have been proclaiming for months…

I saw that on VG charts the game had sold 1.3 million copies in it’s opening day!

It really is that good, but it’s not perfect. In some areas you cannot believe how good it is, graphically and in terms of the sound. That camera bugs me every now and again though.

    Looks and sounds awesome…

Wish I could find a review that doesn’t end in a tear-jerking send-off to this Snake guy I really don’t care about… yet.

Finished the game in one sitting. Its by no means a short game. But once i started, i couldn’t leave it. More of an interactive movie than a game but MGS4 is THE most intriguing and powerful game i have ever played/watched/experience. Personally i feel ign’s review was spot on.
