It’s one of Capcom’s very best franchises – but it’s one that hasn’t gotten a tremendous amount of love, especially here in South Africa. A series of adventure games based on the Japanese legal system and some rather…goofy trials…Ace Attorney (the first 3, anyway) follow the exploits of Phoenix Wright, rookie defence attorney. It appears he’s true to his moniker, as the three Ace Attorney games bearing his name are rising again – this time in HD remakes on iOS.

If you haven’t played them – probably because they’ve been bound to Nintendo’s DS and you’re way too hardcore for that, you really should check them out when they hit Apple’s iTunes store later this year.

In related news, Capcom’s announced a new entry to the series – currently just called Ace Attorney 5. That’s it. They’ve also given gamers a little news on the upcoming, bizarre 3DS crossover Professor Layton Vs. Ace Attorney title for 3DS; the game’s animated cutscenes are being produced by Bones, the guys who did the Fullmetal Alchemist and Wolf Rain TV anime shows.

More Ace Attorney? You’ll hear NO OBJECTION from me.

Editor. I’m old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time – they were capable of being masterpieces. I’m here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
