New Sony Z3 devices are PS4 Remote Play compatible

While the Wii U may be performing poorly, it still brought some neat ideas to gaming. Remember that feature of playing the game on your GamePad elsewhere in the house? Sony offer something similar thanks to PS4 Remote Play, allowing gamers to use their Vita for the same purpose. Sony have recently announced a new range of Z3 tablets at IFA in Berlin. That range will be PS4 Remote Play compatible.

This feature will be possible on the entire Z3 range; the Z3 and Z3 compact smart phones, as well as the 8-inch Z3 tablet (via Sony Mobile)

Play PS4™ games anywhere in your home with the addition of PS4™ Remote Play on Xperia Z3 series. Your Xperia Z3 series are the only smartphones and tablet with PS4 Remote Play which means you can use them as a remote screen to connect to and control your games on PS4. For those times when the TV is being used, simply connect your Xperia Z3 series device to your PS4 via home Wi-Fi and use the DUALSHOCK®4 Wireless Controller with the GCM10 Game Control Mount to continue playing games anywhere at home on your smartphone or tablet.

I think it’s a rather cool idea. I do love me some mobile gaming now and then. If you are somebody who is due for an upgrade or looking for a new tablet, the Z3 range might be something to keep in mind if you own a PS4. You can purchase the GCM10 Game Control Mount to make things a whole lot easier.

While the tab is meant to be light (it weighs a measly 270g), I’d be interested to know what it feels like to play with the GCM10 accessory for an extended period of time. I think Sony are on to something here. Would you consider getting one of these Z3 devices simply because it offers the PS4 Remote Play functionality? Or is the idea of playing a PS4 game on screen for ants blasphemy to your ears and/or eyes?

  1. Going to get this once my contract is up. Which I guess many ps4 owners are going to do. Its a good move by Sony to increase their cell market.

It’s so dangerous, if I get this device, when will I see my family?

All good and well, but can it play Minecraft HD? (the “can it play crysis” has been de-throned)

    Rather brilliant.
Can I use it to skip through my movies and music though?

Or just, you know, loo time? Dunno bout that. I reckon smart phones are making people healthier, extending loo times.

I’m concerned about the lag as Remote Play isn’t a direct Wi-Fi technology iirc,

quite keen to see how the lag is. After PS TV’s dismal lag, I’m still a little skeptical.

That said, this feature is making me seriously consider jumping off the Apple ship on my next upgrade.

Good idea , although I have the Vita already , and streaming at 60fps is not possible.

Didn’t the Z2 launch this year? I’m reading Autumn 2014 release for the Z3? replacing their flagship after +/- 6 months of life? isn’t that a bit insane?

Sony has been accelerating their release cycles since the launch of the Xperia Z at the beginning of last year. We will probably be seeing a new flagship every six months from Sony for some time.

I still think that’s excessive. I mean, looking at the specs of the Z3, it’s not miles beyond the Z2… They Need to be careful as well, I mean public perception. “Why would I buy the Sony phone, they’re going to replace it 6 months from now?” I just don’t think it makes financial sense, They’ll do it, of course, but they’ll start noticing a drop in annual Sony handset sales…

I guess that’s the nature of most computing products. At some stage the progress starts to slow. I think Sony saw this trend with all flagships and decided on this business model. Whether it will work remains to be seen, but at least they are making good products.

I just want to know. Does anybody actually use the Vita remote play? I though it was laggy?

On the other hand. I will continue with my recent epiphany. Vita Phone for the win??
