I almost exclusively use Netflix for my streaming video entertainment, though I sometimes shift to Hulu, and occasionally, Amazon Prime. The one service I use least is Showmax, but that’s primarily because the app for my TV is a shambles, and I don’t really use my Xbox One for media much. A bespoke app for the streaming service launched on Microsoft’s console in late August, but it’s finally available on PlayStation 4 now as well.

“Partnering with Showmax’s great internet TV service means we can now offer PS4 fans in South Africa the option of watching world-class TV shows and movies directly on their console,” Says South African PlayStation distributor Ster-Kinekor Entertainment boss Mario Dos Santos in a press release. “With more content and versatility it’s another reason to make the PS4 the centre of your home entertainment setup.”

What’s quite nice is that the Showmax app on PlayStation caters to our bandwidth starved locale, allowing for easy bandwidth throttling, buy lowering the streaming quality within the app itself. Netflix allows you to change streaming rates, but that requires logging into your account from a web browser.

In the same press release, Showmax head Chris Savides says:

“Our apps team has a very simple mandate: give customers the choice to watch Showmax however and whenever works best for them. By adding the app for the PS4, the world’s best-selling gaming console, we’re aiming to broaden the appeal of Showmax and get even more people using our service.”

I may actually use it now, as there’s quite a bit of content exclusive to Showmax thanks to licencing deals. to use Showmax, all you need to do is follow this handy-dandy bulletpoint list of instructions for a risk-free trial:

  • Sign up for Showmax at www.showmax.com. There’s a no-risk 14-day free trial. Showmax is not a contract – it’s simply paid on a month-to-month basis and can be cancelled any time.
  • Go to the PlayStation Store on the PS4.
  • Search for “Showmax”.
  • Install the app.
  • Sign in to the app using the same email and password you used to sign up for Showmax.

    Do not bother

Older series they do not have all the seasons or not even consecutive season, ex. season 2 and 4 and nothing else.
The performance on their servers is abysmal, during peak times I got buffering on 480p over a 20mb fibre line.

only thing I enjoyed and was RadioRaps’s 2 shows.
