The Division is kicking off its beta this week across all three platforms, but for most we’ve already seen footage of two; Xbox One recently got showcased in a ton of new gameplay videos from a press event in Sweden, and the PS4 version has been shown off in previous months while the game was being marketed. What we haven’t really seen is the game running on PC, but that changes today.
Courtesy of someone brave enough to face Ubisoft’s wrath head on, we have five minutes of what looks like The Division beta running on PC. There’s no indication as to which settings are being used and what hardware is being used to run the game, so we can’t really say for sure if this is the optimal Division experience you can expect. Although it’s plain to see just how different it plays with a mouse and keyboard. Just look at how fast those reaction times are.
I have to admit that the footage does look slightly better than what we’ve seen on console, but not by a mile. That contradicts a lot of what we’ve heard about the PC version, with most how attended the recent event stating that it’s closer to what Ubisoft first showed off at E3 three years ago than the console versions could dream of. Ubisoft Massive are emphasising how important PC is to them, so that could very well be the case.
As we wrote earlier:
Personally it’s important – a I play on PC whenever I can and I want the thing they play at home to be the best possible version. That is not to be underestimated as a driving force. Secondly, both of the studios, Massive and Red Storm started out on PC so it’s a matter of pride, or heritage and pedigree if you will. We feel kind of ashamed if we don’t do the PC version really well.
The Division kicks off on PC in beta this Friday (along with PS4, with the Xbox One version starting a day earlier), so we’ll see for sure just how beautiful the plethora of game options on show allow you to make the shooter MMO.
Will you be playing?

That looks pretty cool, I liked how smooth it was to switch stances. I’m still undecided about this – I want to know what the SP experience will be like.

I *SO* want this to be as good as it promises to be. I’m going to be a very sad panda if it sucks as badly as Watchdogs & GR: FS did…..

I’m not expecting too much from this game… so hopefully I’ll be pleasantly surprised, however from the footage above, I do have to agree – the PC version looks like the one I will prefer. I couldn’t notice any frame drops, however it did seem like the graphics was on an optimal setting rather than extreme.
Supposedly the beta pre-load will become available on Wednesday btw…

Actually, a thought occurs to me – has there been any discussion in terms of an “official” Lazygamer group / community / whatever for the various platforms in the beta this weekend? Assuming we can get it downloaded in time that is…..
I’ll be playing this on Steam myself, with the same handle as here, if anyone feels like joining me for some of the MP side of things.

Heh I was brave and / or foolish, and splashed out for it already on Steam, despite having been burned badly in the past by Ubisoft titles.

It’s a timely milestone. Honestly starting to consider seeing other games. Had a sweet time playing the W3 expansion yesterday.

Btw you didn’t miss much from Baro. He was selling 3-day credit/affinity/resource boosters, a catalyst & primed bane of grineer. So exciting.

Let’s be honest about this – the PC version will be lauded as the ‘ultimate’ version and PC owners will universally ‘circle-jerk’ over how well it runs on their beast of a gaming machine, commenting how console owners get a ‘shitty, downgrade’ version…
Then after three days, when people get banned for ‘improving’ the game with aimbots and the game becomes desperately unstable when it’s had mods to apply 16GB of textures and make everyone run around with a huge pair of comedy breasts, it will become Ubisoft’s fault for providing a ‘shitty console port’…
That, kids, is why we can’t have nice things..
Seriously though, hoping people don’t do their usual ‘knee-jerk’ reaction on this and declare that the game is broken simply because it doesn’t perform optimally on THEIR machine.
