A high-profile death will kick off Marvel’s Civil War 2 event

Look, you don’t start a war and expect everyone to walk out with only a few booboos. When the original Civil War came out during 2006-2007, there were plenty of casualties. The New Warriors and Goliath all met a grisly end, as did over 600 other people when the human bomb known as Nitro decided to Baysplode outside of a school.

Conveniently scheduled for a release when the latest Captain America film arrives this year (Also named Civil War, believe it or not), Civil War II is also going to shed some blood. Because at least one high-profile character is going to be joining Gwen Stacy Bucky Barnes Norman Osborne Uncle Ben in comic book heaven once the dust has settled. For at least two years or so, before the eventual relaunch of their solo title. Comics!

“The death is the marketing hook,” Marvel publisher Dan Buckley said to the New York Daily News.

The thing that’s really compelling is whether or not there’s a story afterwards that’s going to connect with readers and sustain it.

According to the report, heroes such as the Human Torch and Spider-Man won’t be measured for a casket. But there’s plenty of other rising stars in the Marvel Universe who are in the crosshairs of the Civil War II event.  With the cinematic branch of Marvel being linked closely to the comic book source material, the house of ideas also needs to prepare for any future big screen adaptations.

“If you want to really see a road map of where our movies will be (going) in the next five, 10 or 20 years, read the comics,” Marvel Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada said.

They’re almost always a precursor to what’s on the horizon in our [Marvel] Cinematic Universe.

Civil War II also got a new synopsis. Here it is:

A mysterious new Marvel character comes to the attention of the world, one who has the power to calculate the outcome of future events with a high degree of accuracy. This predictive power divides the Marvel heroes on how best to capitalize on this aggregated information, with Captain Marvel leading the charge to profile future crimes and attacks before they occur, and Iron Man adopting the position that the punishment cannot come before the crime.

So just like Minority Report then, only with more spandex and less Tom Cruise. Make my murder Marvel then.
