Godzilla (1)

I loved the new Godzilla that wreaked all manner of havoc on entire cities last year. Not only was this Godzilla a proper force of nature, but he was true to his iconic roots. Big, slow and tougher than month-old biltong, this was a Godzilla who meant business. And I freakin’ squealed internally when he finally unleashed his atomic flame breath near the end of the film. Man, that must be one of my favourite movie scenes of all time. But listen here, it’s more than that.

I think that the 2014 Godzilla design was a perfect example of how to retool a character for a western audience, to Hollywoodise a legend. There’s plenty of similarities present between the original Toho and Hollywood Godzillas, but I like the fact that this Godzilla just looks meaner.

And that’s a Kaiju that I’d happily have on my shelf. If it was big enough. Here’s a look at the upcoming Sideshow Collectibles Godzilla, while I figure out how to put a big piece of wood onto my wall horizontally.

Following in the footsteps of our enormous 24″ Godzilla Maquette, Sideshow is proud to unveil the 14″ Godzilla Statue. Featuring an original sculpt, designed and developed referencing digital assets from Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ groundbreaking film, Sideshow’s artists have captured the atomic King of the Monsters in all of his glory. Striking a fearsome pose over a movie logo themed base, the Godzilla Statue will make an incredible addition to any kaiju or monster film collection.

That statue shows more of Godzilla than the entire 2014 movie. 🙂

You mean that dramatic portrayal of a Kaiju mating guide?
