For those of you who don’t know yet, next year we will have to have our best cutlery ready as we will once again get the opportunity to dine in hell with loads of angry men in leather underwear. While I haven’t heard much news regarding the film of late, a new snippet regarding the new film’s title has surfaced.

It seems the original title, 300: Battle of Artemesia will be dropped to make room for a shiny new one in the shape of 300: Rise of an Empire. While it might not seem the most important of details, I would guess that the decision was made as the new title might just appeal to a slightly wider audience, though us fans of the first film would watch it even if it was titled 300: Watching Paint Dry.

The film is helmed by Noam Murro, a fairly unknown director with only one film behind his name so I have no idea what to expect, but with a franchise with this much potential I am going to be holding thumbs. The film stars Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green and Lena Headey have starring roles and Rodrigo Santoro will be reprising his role as the king of bling, Xerxes.

Set at the same time as the first film, Rise of an Empire will follow Greek General Themistocles as he leads his forces against the invading Persian army. It is set for a release on the 2nd of August 2012, so for now, we will have to be content with growing beards and shouting “Madness!” at random strangers, which I promise I haven’t been doing.
