Tarantino to head back to the West!

There was a lot of debate around Quentin Tarantino’s previous film, the ultra-violent Western Django Unchained. While reviews were mixed (well, mixed as in “That was a masterpiece” or “That was cool”), it was mostly very well received by fans and I, for one, really enjoyed it.

And now the director is planning on doing some gunslinging again.

Tarantino has a rare talent for utterly immersive dialogue, as anyone’s that seen the first 20 minutes of Inglorious Basterds knows, and Django Unchained was no different. Well, it seems he’s heading back to the wild west, but not to make a sequel to Django, as one would expect. Here’s what he had to say while on the Jay Leno Show (via Comingsoon):

“I can’t talk that much about it, but I will say one thing. I haven’t told anyone about this publicly, but I will say the genre. It’s a Western.”

“It’s not a ‘Django’ sequel, but it’s another Western, and the thing is I had so much fun doing ‘Django’ and I love Westerns so much, that after I taught myself how to make one, it’s like ‘well okay, now let me make another one now I know what I’m doing.”

Well, if Django Unchained was his learning curve then I’ll easily state that I can’t wait for what Quentin T. has in store for us next. And I’m glad he’s sticking to another Western. It’s a genre that sadly has been a bit forgotten but is definitely set for a comeback. I’m just afraid that we won’t see the glory of its revival until Hollywood manages to inject at least three explosions a minute into it.

Luckily, Tarantino has mostly free reign of what he attempts so I’m sure we will be in for something special, and I’m excited to see which of his frequent collaborators make it into the film.

What do you think? Are you glad he’s sticking to a Western, or what would you rather see him do? While you mull that over, here’s his interview from Jay Leno, where also talks about his writing process and how he was actually on the chat show before he became a famous director:

Tarantion? Is that some disease you get from a spider bite?

Does it make you say things like, “What in tarnation?”

I was just thinking the other day that he needs to make a Western from the viewpoint of the Indians. That would be something different.
