Justice-League-Part-1-Rumor-Introduce-Mera-Aquaman

I’m cautiously optimistic about Warner Bros Pictures’ foray into bringing DC Comics’ Justice League team to the cinematic world. While they’ve been given a good start with Man of Steel, and this year’s Batman vs Superman: The Dwan of Justice and Suicide Squad are looking set to be great movies, I worry that they are tailing on the back of Marvel’s success and looking to capitalize on the money making potential rather than bring something fresh. Whereas Marvel is dealing with their own stories and remaining faithful to their comic book legacy, Warner Bros has never really done this with the DC Comics heroes and sometimes that lack of passion shows in the final product. The Justice League has always had a slightly smaller scale than the vast galactic conquests of The Avengers and while that can make for a more grounded story, it’s going to take some good storytelling to get the same epic feel.

Personally, I have always preferred Marvel over DC Comics in general, but DC Comics has a lot of great characters that have never truly been explored in the movies. One of these is Aquaman, who I like because he is different from the other superheroes in the comics. For those of you who may not be familiar with the character, Aquaman is the half-human King of Atlantis, the mystical underwater city, and was one of the founding members of the Justice League in the comic books.

And one further, important piece has been put in place for Aquaman’s own entry into the cinematic world with reports from the Hollywood Reporter now saying that Amber Heard has been secured to play the role of Aquaman’s love interest Mera, who may eventually become the Queen of Atlantis if they keep in step with the story arc of the comic books. Mera is set to make her debut to the franchise in Justice League: Part One which Warner Bros are set to start filming in April of this year.

Jason Momoa has already been confirmed to play the role of Aquaman and we will already be seeing him this year in Zack Snyder’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, set to hit theaters on March 25, 2016. HE will then appear in two part Justice League movies – also directed by Snyder – alongside Mera and the rest of the League (Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern) before eventually landing a film of his own, which I think is about time.

Comingsoon.net reports that there are currently two scripts in development as the producers are looking at different perspective in which they can best tell the Aquaman story:

The studio is developing two scripts for the Aquaman solo movie simultaneously, with Kurt Johnstad (300, 300: Rise of an Empire) penning one and David Leslie Johnson (Wrath of the Titans, The Conjuring 2) the other.

Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder are serving as producers of the Aquaman movie, which is a good thing as it keeps the consistency between the DC Comic movies (and is what Marvel has done with Kevin Feige involved in producing all the Avenger movies) and so we should be able to expect that the quality will be of a consistent standard.

We can next expect to see Amber Heard opposite her husband Johnny Depp, alongside Cara Delevingne and Theo James in the upcoming mystery thriller London Fields.
