John Travolta is an actor who has had many ups and downs in his career and is seen as somewhat of a comeback king in Hollywood as just when you think he is down and out, he comes out with cracking good movies and reminds everyone of his talent. His latest slump though seems to be one that he has not been able to recover from, with few films over the past 10 years or so being memorable.
And this new trailer for I Am Wrath seems to not offer any proof that this slump will end anytime soon. While Travolta has always made for a particularly convincing villain type character, this is just too reminiscent of roles he has done in the past and this movie doesn’t come across as anything exceptional. The film however does seem well shot by director Chuck Russel (Fringe, The Mask – though he has been quiet on the directing front for a while) and contains what look like some entertaining and stylistic action set pieces.
The film is about a man trying to avenge the murder of his wife after a bunch of corrupt cops are unable to prosecute his wife’s killer. Its a story that has been told hundreds of times before, so lets hope this one does something different with the plot, otherwise it will descend into obscurity very fast.
The film also stars Christopher Meloni, Amanda Schull, Rebecca De Mornay, Sam Trammell and Luis Da Silva and is set for release in the US on April 29th 2016. No local release date has been announced as of yet.
