As anybody who’s worked with Darryn for any extended period of time can attest, sometimes you just want to throw yourself off a building. Or throw him off a building. Either way, somebody’s going over the edge of this metaphorical rooftop. But I digress…

The point is that there are many people that battle with suicidal tendencies, and all for very different reasons. But one of the most common reasons is that they just needed somebody to talk to, somebody who gets them. So how about their fellow suicide attemptees? That’s a decision that’s working out (mostly kinda) good for Pierce Brosnan, Aaron Paul, Imogen Poots and Toni Collette in this first trailer for A Long Way Down.

Four people meet on New Year’s Eve, as they all attempt to commit suicide off the same rooftop, and form a surrogate family to help one another weather the difficulties of their lives.

As the trailer says, this is based off a Nick Hornsby (About a Boy, High Fidelity) novel and feels very much like… well, a Nick Hornsby novel. That’s most definitely not a bad thing, as you know that you’re in for a combination of wry humour, and touching humanity. I don’t know whether this has the dramatic legs to match High Fidelity and About a Boy‘s successes but it certainly has the potential.

A Long Way Down currently doesn’t have an international release date yet, but will be jumping off cinema roofs (too soon?) in the UK on March 21, 2014.
