The assassination of US President John F. Kennedy is one of those events where nearly everybody remembers exactly what they were doing when they first heard the news. I, for example, was in my father’s scrotum at the time. Not being born yet didn’t change the fact that I, like so many others, have seen that tragic day from so many different angles. But while the mysteries behind who shot JFK have been examined several times, there’s been very little focus on the people on the fringes of that incident and how that day in November 1963 affected them.

That’s where Parkland comes in, showing the ordinary people caught up in an extraordinary day, as can be seen in this first trailer.

Recounting the chaotic events that occurred in Dallas, Texas on November 22, 1963, “Parkland” weaves together the perspectives of a handful of ordinary individuals suddenly thrust into extraordinary circumstances: the young doctors and nurses at Parkland Hospital; Dallas’ chief of the Secret Service; an unwitting cameraman who captured what became the most watched and examined film in history; the FBI agents who nearly had the gunman within their grasp; the brother of Lee Harvey Oswald, left to deal with his shattered family; and JFK’s security team, witnesses to both the president’s death and Vice President Lyndon Johnson’s rise to power over a nation whose innocence was forever altered.

“Parkland” is based on the book “Four Days In November,” by renowned author and former prosecutor Vincent Bugliosi.

That looks quite good, and if director Peter Landesman manages to keep away from the Hallmark Channel styled melodrama, this could be incredible. He has quite the cast to work with, and judging from these glimpses they are certainly stepping up to the task at hand, with it looking like it will be a scene stealing standoff between James Badge Dale, Paul Giamatti, Jacki Weaver and Billy Bob Thornton. And that’s a face-off I will happily like to see.

Parkland will be opening in international cinemas on September 20, 2013.

PS: And now that we’ve covered that, I must apologize for putting the image of my father’s testes in your head earlier. Damn, I think I just did it again.

  1. Several things occurred to me while watching this video –
What can this film show us that we haven’t seen before, will the characters
in this film manage to have value within the much recognized context,
will the script have time for nuance when it still has to dutifully adhere its larger story?

Above all, will Yahoo ever make a video player that isn’t a steaming pile of shit?
