Is action-horror a thing? Because if not, I’m claiming that label for Incarnate – the upcoming action-horror movie that sees Two-Face (Aaron Eckhart) teaming up with Melisandre (Carice van Houten) and Ra’s al Ghul (Matt Nable) to exorcise baby Batman (David Mazouz). Comic books make so much more sense now.

The official plot synopsis is as follows:

Confined to a wheelchair after a horrific accident, Dr. Seth Ember (Aaron Eckhart) is an “Incarnate” — gifted with the rare ability to delve into the minds of possessed people in order to exorcise their demons from the inside out. When the Vatican enlists him to exorcise a particularly troubled young boy, Ember is shocked to discover inside him the same evil spirit responsible for the death of his wife and child years before.

Now, with the young boy’s life in his hands and his own personal redemption at stake, Ember desperately searches for a way to destroy the demon before it kills him and unleashes its terror upon the world…

Why is Dr. Seth Ember (an on-the-nose name if there ever was one) an “Incarnate” when clearly the boy is the devil incarnate? Other than that I don’t really have any questions because this doesn’t look to be a movie for questions – this is sit back, eat your popcorn, and enjoy some mindlessness. Based on Eckhart’s last foray into action-horror, I’m tempted to call this I, Exorcist instead.

What do you think?

Incarnate is due for release in the US on 2 December. Directed by Brad Peyton (San Andreas), with the script by Ronnie Christensen (Passengers), it stars Aaron Eckhart, David Mazouz, Carice van Houten and Matt Nable.
