Adam Sandler is going to suck…your blood

Is there any end to the amount of Dracula films currently in production? Not when there is money to be made! There’s already a few origin and reimaginings in the pipeline, so it may seem that the Vlad-mine has been thoroughly tapped.

Oh wait, there’s still a vein of family-friendly CGI over there! Get your pickaxes ready, for the Adam Sandler Dracula film, Hotel Transylvania!

“It’s refreshing to go back to the beginning of Dracula — and then have Adam Sandler put his spin on it,” said director Genndy Tartakovsky to USA Today. “There will be no sparkling skin. But there are a lot of jokes.”

Sandler will be joined in the audio booth by several of his co-stars from Grown Ups, such as Kevin James (Frankenstein) and David Spade (The Invisible Man), as well as Steve Buscemi, Moly Shannon and Cee Lo Green, who portray various other monsters.

They’re all gathering for the coming-of-age birthday of Dracula’s daughter, Mavis (Selena Gomez), who is turning 118. Of course, something happens to go wrong at this crucial time.

“The motto of Hotel Transylvania is that it has been human-free since 1898,” said Tartakovsky. “This is a place that all his friends can come without being persecuted by humans. They are just trying to live their own lives.”

But then human backpacker Johnny (Adam Semberg) accidentally discovers the venue, and also happens to fall in love with Mavis, leaving Dracula to disguise him as Johnnystein, while somehow getting him out of the hotel without alarming the guests. Wacky hijinks and hilarity will most likely ensue.

While I’ve lost faith in Sandler, seeing as how his recent films are anything but funny, having legendary animation icon Gendy Tartakovsky on board might be exactly what this film needs, as his work has always resulted in quality programs and films, from his breakout work on Dexters Lab, to his mini-episode Star Wars animations that reinvigorated the franchise in that medium.

Hopefully he can bring some much needed comedy to the genre.
