Sometimes, a franchise needs to die. And that death, can be a good thing. After all, you’d like a series of movies to go off on a high note, wouldn’t you? Take Resident Evil for instance. Those movies are as Kervyn likes to describe them, 90 minute adverts for director Paul Anderson to boast about the fact that he happens to be married to series star Milla Jovovich and I’m in no way jealous of him at all. Okay, that’s a lie, but moving on.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

And honestly, I have no problem with that. Resident Evil flicks are fantastic popcorn entertainment, a quick afternoon excuse to turn your brain off and watch some fun action. But the sixth film will mark the final appearance of Alice and the rest of the cast. Or until a reboot is optioned.

And returning actress Ali Larter, who played Claire Redfield in previous Resident Evil movies, is well aware that the end is near. “I know it is,” Larter said to IGN of this Resident Evil being the final film in the series.

We are not allowed to say one thing. I am held to secrecy, but what I can tell you is that the script is amazing. They’re really wrapping up the whole series, so that just makes it a little more poignant. To be able to come back and reprise my role as Claire and my relationship with Alice, with Umbrella Corp. — you know, I’m excited to get back in it. I think the fans are just going to be beyond excited.

This is Larter’s third Resident Evil flick, after Extinction and Afterlife. And it sounds like she’s happy to be back yet again. “How many movies have this kind of fanbase and get to be made six times?” Larter said.

I think that’s extraordinary. It’s a total testament to [series star] Milla [Jovovich] and Paul. I’m so grateful to them, that they chose me to be a part of it halfway through, and they’ve kept me along for the ride. I love that it’s not seven men and one woman. I mean, these are two women, and they’re not competing with each other.

You know, there are such easy clichés these two could fall into, but this is definitely a female power movie.

Bring it on. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is scheduled for a January 27 release in 2017. It’ll also star Wentworth Miller as Chris Redfield.

I really liked Resident Evil because they really tried hard. Also Milla. Was just sad that they killed off Michelle Rodriguez twice.

The last movie was probably the best since the first in the series, so I’m looking forward to the next.
