While out doing press rounds for Tim Burton’s Big Eyes in which Adams plays 1950s American artist Margaret Keane, she was (much like Mark Hamill) asked a few questions about that other little movie a few people are curious about – Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. More specifically, how her character of Lois Lane fits into the movie given there’s a whole legion of superheroes including Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck), Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Mamoa) & Cyborg (Ray Fisher).
As she told Coming Soon:
“It’s exciting to get to bring in all these other characters and I was really excited that Gal [Gadot] was involved, because it was a nice to have another girl on set, even if we don’t work together a lot, it was nice to have her there.”
When asked if there was a potential love triangle between herself as Lane, Superman and Wonder Woman as has happened in the comics:
“They always think that if you put in another woman and automatically… ‘Catfight!’ No, I think that’s a male fantasy thing. I don’t think that’s reality. I don’t know how it will turn out, if we’re going to be competition, but we are not in this, I can safely say, and we’re not in real life. She’s just the coolest girl ever.”
Good. If there’s one thing that cheapens two strong female characters it’s them fighting over a man, even if he’s super. In a movie that already seems jam-packed with characters needing screen time it wouldn’t have much time to develop naturally and would come across as forced.
She also spoke to Collider about how her character fits into the super-powered story:
“Lois is still sort of like the key to the information, you know? She’s the girl going out and getting it and figuring it out and putting it together and all of that, so she’s very much involved, but I kind of leave the heavy lifting to the boys, you know? So to speak. They’re awesome together. It’s kind of like this big fest of muscles … it was really kind of nice. And then you add Jason Momoa and Gal Gadot and I felt very short and, yeah.”
Good. Lois Lane has always been integral to Superman and the last thing I’d want to see is her being shunted aside for more super heroes.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is due for release in the US on 25 March 2016.
