And the 2015 GOLDEN GLOBES winners are…

Last night, the greatest awards show hosting duo currently on Earth, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, presented the second drunkest annual awards show in Hollywood: The Golden Globes! Besides for just being far less formal, the Globes are usually a good precursor for the Oscars, the very stuffy granddaddy of Hollywood awards shows, as winners here tend to go on to also win the big one.

So who were those winners? Well, actually the audience, as the 72nd Golden Globes was rather fun event, boasting hilariously scathing monologues from Fey and Poehler skewering everything from Bill Cosby to North Korea, touching Charlie Hedbo tributes and some endearing acceptance speeches (especially Michael Keaton’s teary thank you). George Clooney in particular made audiences feel all the feels when he took to the stage for his Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

But what about those actual gold statues? Who walked home with what? Well, the big winner of the night is undoubtedly Richard Linklater’s ambitious drama Boyhood. The movie – which was filmed over twelve years with the same actors as they aged in real-time – took home the Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Patricia Arquette. Wes Anderson’s Grand Budapest Hotel – a movie loved to bits – ended up grabbing the other big one, Best Motion Picture Comedy or Musical. Michael Keaton proved his comeback is legit with a well-deserved Best Actor Comedy or Musical statue for Birdman, while Amy Adams was a bit of a surprise win for Best Actress Musical or Comedy for her turn in Tim Burton’s Big Eyes, which had a very mixed reception from critics.

Besides for nabbing Best Song for Glory, Ava DuVernay’s universally critically acclaimed Martin Luther King Jr. biopic was nowhere to be seen though, while the Benedict Cumberbatch led Imitation Game and HBO’s buzziest show of 2014, True Detective, was completely shut out.

There was some television history made though, as Amazon’s Transparent took home the award for Best TV Series Musical or Comedy as well as Best Actor in a TV Series Musical or Comedy for veteran actor Jeffrey Tambor, not only granting Amazon its first ever Globe, but also becoming the first online series to ever win that category at the awards show. The show follows Tambor as a divorced father of 3 adult children who actually identifies as a woman, but doesn’t know how to reveal this to his family until he discovers his one daughter cheating on her husband, prompting the two to learn each other’s secrets.

The biggest “loser” of the evening could arguably be the aforementioned Birdman. Alejandro Inarritu’s meta-drama, about an actor once famous for playing a costumed superhero in his youth experiencing an identity crisis when he tries to make his big comeback after many years, had led the pack of nominations with 7 nods, but only picked up two wins in the aforementioned achievement for Michael Keaton as well as landing the Best Screenplay award.

Here’s the full list of winners for the night. Winners are in bold.
