It's time to save the world in this first trailer for ANT-MAN!

Ant-Man-crop

A couple of hours ago, Marvel debuted a trailer for ANt-Man, that was full of hot ant on ant action. I’m going to shut up now so that you can watch it:

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man.” Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Well, that was a lot more sombre than I was expecting. Every Marvel movie has had a different feel so far, and while Guardians Of The Galaxy was far more fun than previous efforts, Ant-Man feels like a more personal story judging by this first trailer. A story about redemption and heroism where character development is front and center.

Marvel has been pushing the “heist” factor of the film for a while now, which is largely non-existent in the trailer. Although at this point, that could be giving too much away. It’s not a bad first look, and I’m looking forward to seeing a more fleshed out preview soon when the film hits later this year.

Ant-Man stars  Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Judy Greer, Bobby Cannavale, Michael Pena, Martin Donovan, Wood Harris, John Slattery, Evangeline Lilly and Corey Stoll. Peyton Reed directs.

  1. Well now… that was certainly a lot more sombre than I expected. I thought that after Michael Douglas asks Paul Rudd to be Ant-Man and he did that “Huh?”, the tone would get way more bouncy and fun. I mean after the tongue-in-cheek marketing campaign for the movie, this trailer is strangely lacking that sense of goofy fun.

That being said, I saw the pre-viz test reels of Ant-Man in action last year, and it was crazy cool. None of those insane action beats are even hinted at here. So basically I’m saying that I still have high hopes for this, but realize that this trailer is definitely not doing Marvel any favours in selling it to audiences who are less familiar with it.

Problem is with the MCU they can make any movie (even crap) and people will feel the need to watch it so not to miss out. That said the Agents of Shield season one /Winter Soldier crossover was excellent .
