While Arnold Schwarzenegger’s return to his big screen terminating ways hasn’t quite panned out as well I’m sure he would have hoped (though I kind of dug The Last Stand), he’s not letting a little box office jitters hold him back. And next up he’ll be teaming with David Ayer, the man behind last year’s simply brilliant End of Watch, to shoot some people again with really big guns in Sabotage (formerly called Ten).

In the film Arnie plays John “Breacher” Wharton, a DEA agent who “leads an elite task force that takes on the world’s deadliest drug cartels. When the team successfully executes a high-stakes raid on a cartel safe house, they think their work is done, until, one-by-one, the ten members mysteriously start to be eliminated.”

All of we’ve seen of the film up until now, has been a pic of Arnie’s character and his really bad haircut, something that was done very deliberately, as Ayer “didn’t want him to look good” but rather he should be “real”. As Arnold explained to USA Today, this wasn’t something he immediately liked.

“I got used to the haircut. It’s like someone put a pot on my head and just cut around it.”

But a bad haircut wasn’t the only physical hardship he had to endure. Arnie and his team, which includes Joe Manganiello as “Grinder”, Mireille Enos as Lizzy and Sam Worthington as “Monster”, underwent rigorous training to function as a proper DEA unit, something which not only helped the actors to bond, but also saved time on unnecessary reshoots.

“We all got very close working that much together… “There was no, ‘Let’s do it again because you carried the weapon the wrong way.’ There was none of that. There were no mistakes.”

And it seems that with all that perfection, the realistic intensity that Ayer brought to End of Watch will be carried over to this as well.

“This is a very intense movie. I don’t know if everyone has the stomach to handle this. It’s brutal. We’re taking the action thriller to new heights.”

New heights, maybe. But apparently still using some old-school methods of getting the job done.

“Here, the only way to stop [the enemy] is to use a high-powered automatic machine gun and to try to whack them.”

And you can check out Arnie and friends doing some of that whacking in the pics found below, all also courtesy of USA Today.
