What are you up to, J.J. Abrams? We all know that Mr. Abrams and Bad Robot have a history of toying with their audiences and have quite a knack for building hype, but since the release of a mysterious clip earlier today, the internet has exploded with rumours regarding what it could be for.

Titled Stranger, the clip stars off showing us stars and a man emerging from the ocean, followed by a reveal that the man’s mouth is stitched shut. The folks over at Bad Robot are remaining tight-lipped, but the rumour mill is churning at full speed as various sources are speculating as to whether this is a veiled teaser for the new Star Wars film, a teaser for a new J.J. Abrams series or even something completely new. All we know is, this doesn’t seem to fit in with anything that we currently know is in development by Mr. Abrams. A popular rumour floating around is that it might be for a continuation of Lost, since the word ‘Lost’ is emphasised in the narration, and speculation over at Reddit seems to currently be leaning towards Star Wars.

I’ve always enjoyed the approach that he has taken with many of his more ambitious projects but I’ve often been let down by the follow-through, as if his ADHD approach to filmmaking leads him onto his next project before he has the time and effort to finish up something already in production. All we know is, Abrams has managed to capture everyone’s imagination once again and while many clues from the video might still be deciphered, I doubt we will get an answer until more clues are revealed.

What do you think it might be? Have a look for yourself:
