To say that Fantastic Four has had a rocky development process so far, would be an understatement. Controversy, fans getting whipped into a frenzy over casting decisions and rumours that parent company FOX wanted to bury the flick were running rampant. But through it all, Fantastic Four has also had a level of secrecy that is usually reserved for KFC and Coca Cola recipes. Director Josh Trank has run a tight ship on this film. And here’s your first official taste of it.
FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
That, actually wasn’t bad at all. Tying into Trank’s comments about making a movie that was more grounded in science and reality, Fantastic Four very much feels like a different kind of superhero movie. But hopefully one that isn’t as grim and gritty as what DC produces these days. The Thing looks like a blue-eyed clobberin’ machine, the score from Marco Beltrami and Phillip Glass is effective and the characters look like science experiments run amok.
Which might just be enough to nudge me out of my cautious optimism for the film. Fantastic Four stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan, Jaime Bell and Toby Kebbell. It’ll be getting bombarded with cosmic radiation this August.

Damn. That looks way better than I expected. And I can kind of see where the “Chronicle 2” descriptions came from, not in the content, but just in the look of it all, the color palette, the mood, etc.
And from what I can see, Thing looks incredible (now just show me Doom, damn it!). I’m also pretty sure now that we’re not going to see the main characters in costumes, but rather these more science-y suits, right up until the very end of the movie, when they will finally break out the team duds.
All in all though, my excitement levels are definitely increasing after seeing that.

Uhm… Is it just me, or did that look really impressive? I’ve really been ‘meh’ about this movie… But now, after seeing that, I seriously wanna know more! Really impressed – my interest is piqued at last. 🙂
