Just a heads up: If you aren’t fluent in German, you’re not going to understand a word of what is being said in this first trailer for director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena) and screenwriter John Hodge’s (Trainspotting, The Beach, Shallow Grave) long awaited Lance Armstrong biopic The Program. Normally, we would wait until we had a English version of the trailer before posting it, but since we’ve only seen a single image of the flick – showing off star Ben Foster as the disgraced cycling champion – in the two years since this film was initially announced, I guess it’s achtung, baby now.

At least we get to see what the movie looks like – in particular Foster’s eerily accurate transformation, and Frears gorgeous cinematography – and the dramatic angle it will be taking, focusing exclusively on Armstrong’s rise to being one of the most dominant and celebrated sportsmen in the world, and his subsequent fall after being exposed for years-long use of performance enhancing drugs.

UPDATE: Back away from the bratwurst, because since writing this, the English language version of the trailer has now also popped up online. I’ve included it below after the German one (which is being kept around for posterity), and it’s a crackling look at this whole debacle.

An Irish sports journalist becomes convinced that Lance Armstrong’s performances during the Tour de France victories are fueled by banned substances. With this conviction, he starts hunting for evidence that will expose Armstrong.

The Program also stars Chris O’Dowd, Guillaume Canet, Jesse Plemons and Dustin Hoffman. It is scheduled for release in Germany on October 8, but there’s no further international release info available yet.
