Bill Murray Does a Reddit AMA

Bill Murray is so cool that we even liked him as a zombie. If you told us that The Dude in Big Lebowski was about him, we’d probably believe you. And though many great people have entered the arena of the Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), quite a few come out scarred (Woody Harrelson, anyone?). But not our man Bill. What happens when you ask Bill anything? You’re just reminded what a legend he is…

The previous paragraph did not overstate things – a quick search online for ‘Bill Murray AMA’ reveals all kinds of media fodder. For example, Indiewire’s The Playlist looks into his recount of what went down with the Garfield movie.

And I probably cursed a little, and I said “I can fix this, but I can’t fix this today. Or this week. Who wrote this stuff?”

And it appeared that one of the people behind the screen was the misspelled Joel Cohen. And I said “how could you have THAT scene take place before this scene? This can’t possibly happen? Who edited this thing?”

And another person behind the glass was the editor of the film

His words are held with enough esteem that even The Telegraph published a list of the top ten things he said. Several other sites followed suit, all indulging in some great gems. Like this story of when he was in Japan to shoot Lost In Translation:

The oddest… well, I was eating at a sushi bar. I would go to sushi bars with a book I had called ‘Making out in Japanese.’ it was a small paperback book, with questions like ‘can we get into the back seat?’ ‘do your parents know about me?’ ‘do you have a curfew?’

When asked why he works so much with Wes Anderson:

I really love the way Wes writes with his collaborators, I like the way he shoots, and I like HIM. I’ve become so fond of him. I love the way that he has made his art his life. And you know, it’s a lesson to all of us, to take what you love and make it the way you live your life, and that way you bring love into the world.

And as a bonus, the short version of Murray’s long answer on recreational marijuana:

People are realizing that the war on drugs is a failure, that the amount of money spent, you could have bought all the drugs with that much money rather than create this army of people and incarcerated people. I think the terror of marijuana was probably overstated.
